Why Natal Hypnotherapy hypnobirthing?

When my son was born in 2010, I prepared for the birth by reading all manner of informative and inspiring books about natural birth.  My husband and I went to NCT classes.  I practiced pregnancy yoga.  I kept hearing "Giving birth is like running a  marathon!".  Well, I'd run a marathon so I concluded I'd be fine.  I thought I was ready but when the day came, I found I simply couldn't make use of all the positive things I'd learnt because I had not prepared emotionally and mentally.  I was overcome by fear and anxiety and my body responded accordingly.


Discovering Natal Hypnotherapy as recommended by my Consultant Obstetrician when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2012 paved the way for an amazing positive birth experience. 

After having initial misgivings about using hypnosis, I gave Natal Hypnotherapy a chance because the research I read from around the world show that hypnosis for birth results in:

     * shorter labours 
     * reduced use of pain medication 
     * higher Apgar scores (measurement of the baby’s well being at the birth) 
     * reduced surgical delivery (Caesarian delivery and forceps)

     * reduced likelihood of postnatal depression


By using the Natal Hynotherapy programme and mastering the hypnosis for birth techniques through practice I was able to let go of the fear and negativity that so often surrounds birth in our society and I was able to connect with my instincts and ability to relax.


Having experienced birth with and without Natal Hypnotherapy hypnobirthing techniques, I am passionate about promoting birth as a normal, natural physiological process.  I see time and again that Natal Hypnotherapy enables women to achieve a sense of control over their birth experience that makes for a positive birth no matter where or how that birth takes place.

What is the Natal Hypnotherapy Hypnobirthing Programme?

Each part of the programme dovetails neatly into the next giving you a seamless experience as you learn and master the various techniques to get yourself into a deeply relaxed state.


Relaxation Classes and Birth Preparation Classes lie at the very heart of the journey and give you the opportunity to fully prepare emotionally and mentally.


Crucially, Natal Hypnotherapy Birth Preparation classes are also for birth partners so that they too can master the ability to relax and remain calm under pressure and support you to make the most of the techniques during the birth.

These classes are an excellent complement to other antenatal courses as they approach birth preparation from a unique yet simple angle, covering areas not touched by most other courses. Natal Hypnotherapy focuses exclusively on what you can do to help yourself have the most positive birth experience regardless of the type of birth you are planning by preparing yourself mentally, emotionally and physically for birth.


By attending Relaxation and Birth Preparation classes and listening to the CD over and over again before birth, you give your body and mind the opportunity to become really comfortable with the processes of a stress free birth.  Your confidence in your body's ability to give birth will improve and a lot of the anxiety associated with birth will slip away. Your mind doesn't know the difference between imagination and reality so when the birth actually begins your mind and body will be conditioned to recognise the sensations and triggers and respond positively by saying “Oh yes, we have done this before – this is a sign for me to relax and breathe...”.
